Stretching alone is not always enough to release muscle tightness. Foam rolling can assist in breaking up fibrous areas within the soft tissue, helping to return muscles back to their normal function. This may well be an effective tool for injury prevention and faster recovery; and whilst this does not replace a professional sports massage, it certainly serves as a great addition with your current treatment regime. Be sure to keep your strokes slow and consistent in pressure, using a low load with your body weight.
